In this longer director’s cut of Sam Peckinpah’s version of the legendary friendship between two former outlaws, Kris Kristofferson (as Billy) and James Coburn (as Garrett) shine as gunmen who suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of the law and deadly enemies. Absorbing, full of tension, great one-liners and deft character study, Bob Dylan, who also supplies the soundtrack, rounds out a classic cast in one of the best of the genre. Try to see this longer version where all of Peckinpah’s quirks come to the foreground.
